Both my sons enjoyed 8+ years in the NFL and thus I’ve seen first-hand that many professional athletes are outstanding people who use their platforms and good fortune to help others. If an athlete abuses their spouse, that’s front-page news . . . which it should be. Let one get stopped for a speeding ticket, it’s headline news. But how many instances have you heard or read where a professional athlete steps out to help the disadvantaged in their communities? Hardly ever. That’s about to change.
